MARKETING LESSONS WE NEED TO CARRY FORWARD FROM 2020

2020 was a year of unpleasant surprises and with the dropping sales and limited resources, marketers were forced to be creative. Here are some of our favourite marketing strategies that we will be carrying into the new year:

Physical to digital:

Brands were suddenly forced to go digital during the pandemic in order to survive in the market. However, moving forward, online stores and a strong digital presence will continue to be necessary if you want to succeed.

Creating branded entertainment:

We have constantly been bombarded with advertisements for as long as we can remember. Now, we want to be entertained more than we want to be sold things too. A lot of major brands have understood this and are producing entertainment which doesn’t feel like advertising. This helps provide entertainment value and build awareness through social sharing. This includes podcasts, DIY Youtube videos and games to name a few.

Influencer marketing:

Influencer marketing has been around for a while and it is not going anywhere anytime soon. It is a type of word-of-mouth marketing which uses celebrities, opinion leaders, social media personalities to spread the word about your business and help amplify your brand message to a bigger market. According to AdAge, 63% of consumers trust influencers’ opinions of products much more than what brands say about themselves and 58% of people have bought a new product in the past six months because of an influencer’s recommendation.

Rise of e-commerce:

While people were quarantined at home, they grew to become more and more dependent on e-commerce. Now they are accustomed to getting everything they need from the comfort of their homes. If there is one strategy that will continue to shine even in 2021, it has to be e-commerce.

Responsive communication:

With the sudden rise of e-commerce in India, people often needed help figuring out how things work and they have started turning to customer service for help. According to Single Grain, chatbots will help businesses save over $8 billion per annum by the year 2022. It is important to provide the best support possible as quickly as you can and this will help you build a relationship with the customer and keep them coming back for more.
